Varun Dhawan was born on 24th April 1987 in a Punjabi family in Mumbai. His father is film director David Dhawan, and his mother’s name is Karuna Dhawan. Varun Dhawan’s home town is Delhi but the family shifted to Mumbai. Rohit Dhawan, who started his directorial career with the 2011 film, Desi Boyz, is the elder brother of Varun. Varun is the nephew of actor Anil Dhawan and cousin of actor Siddharth Dhawan. However Varun Dhawan’s entire family is connected with the films. Varun calls Dhawan in the house as Pappu.

Varun Dhawan has done his studies from the Bombay Scottish School, after which he got degree in business management from Nottingham Trent University, UK. His father, David Dhawan, wanted Varun to be an engineer or a doctor but due to his mother he came to Bollywood industry. After this he joined Arjun Kapoor’s acting school ‘Barry Jones Acting School’ and started learning about acting.

Varun started his acting journey with Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt with Karan Johar’s ‘Student of the Year (2012)’. That was a super hit film of that time. He also got a Filmfare Award for his superb acting, and the performance was appreciated. Especially his dance was liked very much. In this film, he played the role of a college student. Before his debut film Varun has also worked as a assistant director in the film ‘My Name Is Khan’ (2010), but as a hero his first film was ‘Student of the Year’. 

After this Varun appeared again in 2014 with Alia Bhatt in Karan Johar’s film ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’. The film did a good business as well as the audience liked the chemistry of Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan and the film was successful. This year Varun also starred in the film ‘Mai Tera Hero’. The director of this film was Varun’s father and this film was a superhit. After this, in 2015, Varun Dhawan appeared with Shraddha Kapoor in ‘ABCD-2’, in which his dance was highly praised and Varun Dhawan’s popularity grew after this film.

In the Crime Thriller Badlapur (2015), he earned a nomination for Best Actor for the Filmfare Award for a revenge. He also made the film Dilwale with Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. In this film he played the younger brother of Shahrukh Khan. He also worked in Dhishum (2016), and romantic comedy Badrinath ki dulhania dulhania (2017).
